The blue and red flash in the rearview mirror and the sound of sirens fill the night. A police officer calmly steps over and asks the driver of the car about the amount of alcohol consumed that night. It’s a sight that Americans have grown used to. In a way, drunk driving—despite its illegal status and pressure from both authority and communities—is still as prevalent as ever.
However, in the San Jose Bay Area, one limo service company aims to change all of that. Harpreet Dardi, owner of Dardi Limo, has announced that his company will begin providing flat rates after midnight in an effort to curb drunk driving in the area.
Mr. Dardi says that “What a lot of people don’t consider when talking about drunk driving is the lack of transportation services that are available after a certain time.”
Mr. Dardi goes on to provide an example of a potential situation that could lead to drunk driving. “Let’s say that Joe is coming home from the bars to meet his friends in San Francisco but lives in Fresno. He took the BART in, but now it’s 2AM and he has no other way of leaving. Joe needs to go home but doesn’t want to take the cab because of the ridiculous price.”
By offering his company’s services at a flat rate after midnight, Mr. Dardi hopes that more people will choose the safer alternative of having a sober professional drive them home.
Mr. Dardi expresses his own feelings towards some of the taxi services of the Bay Area and claims that “part of the problem also comes from some less than scrupulous cab companies that actually raise their prices after midnight because they know there’s not much that the consumer can do to combat that. Well, I aim to change that.”
While there certainly are some logistical issues that must be considered, Mr. Dardi says that he is “confident that everything will work out better to make our communities safer and curb drunk driving.”
Dardi Limo is based in San Jose, California and offers executive ground transportation services to the entire Bay Area, including to all major airports. For more information on available services, call directly at 1-(408)-568-4000 or visit the website here
