SAN DIEGO, Calif., Nov. 10, 2021 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- USE Credit Union (USECU) and the San Diego Loyal Soccer Club (SD Loyal) have partnered to bring soccer fans the experience of field side entertainment with "My First Big Purchase," an inside look at the players' favorite memories of their first big financial investment.
"Making a real and positive difference within the community is our passion, so partnering with the SD Loyal Soccer Club is a natural fit," said Amber Fielder, Vice President of Marketing at USECU. "We're excited to kick off this partnership with candid player footage that fans wouldn't get to see while cheering from the stands at Torero Stadium."

A few highlights from the soccer club include:
- Manager, cofounder and vice president Landon Donovan made his first big purchase as a 14-year-old to support his job delivering newspapers. On his paper route, making four dollars a day, he saved enough money to buy a bicycle. Donovan said, "The hard work gets you what you want." Donovan grew up in a 900-square-foot home with little financial means, but always remembered to stay humble throughout his career.
- Forward Corey Hertzog drove an orange 2010 Kia Sportage and loved to blast anything you could sing to, including Katy Perry and the classic Nelly hit, "Ride Wit Me." After landing a contract with the New York Red Bulls in 2011, Hertzog made a smart financial investment with his car, which he named "Brooke." Hertzog said, "I had a really good contract, and I was able to put a lot of money down and have low payments."
- Goalie Austin Guerrero saved his hard earned cash until he could buy the Mercedes C200 of his dreams—appropriately naming it "Meche." After he started playing stateside for the North Carolina Football Club, Guerrero could be seen driving "Meche" around while listening to popular hip hop artists. Depending on the season, Guerrero said, "windows down when you're singing."
- Defender Sal Zizzo set himself up for a lifetime of financial success by investing in a rental property early on in his career. "One of the driving forces behind the investment property was my parents...they were always kicking themselves for not doing it," said Zizzo. The rental property continues to be a source of revenue for this 14-year professional soccer player.
- Midfielder Alejandro Guido wanted to start a tradition of purchasing a new watch after signing a new contract. The first watch he bought, a Swiss-made Tissot, started his collection that now includes a Rolex and an Omega. Guido said, "My grandfather used to wear [watches], and he gave one to my dad, handed it down, and I thought to myself that would be a nice tradition to do with my family." Depending on the occasion, Guido is known to flex in his Rolex from time to time.
"Since the beginning, SD Loyal has been driven to lead this community both on and off the field," said Landon Donovan, EVP of Soccer Operations and Manager of SD Loyal Soccer Club. "USE Credit Union has a knack for demonstrating health, wellness and well-being in all facets of life, not just financially, and that is something we should all emulate. Having the team participate in the 'My First Big Purchase' series is a fun way we get to relate to our fans."
The video series will also be viewable in games, on the SD Loyal and USECU YouTube channels and other social media pages.
