The owners of HungerShield are thankful for all of the support they've received from their local New York and New Jersey communities in launching their business. Learn how they want to give back in support of Hurricane Sandy relief.

The Nutritionists Behind HungerShield

We are so appreciative for the early acquisition of our product...It all started with our local communities, so it made it even more important to us to find a way to contribute.

Owned and operated by four working moms who live in the New York-New Jersey tri-state area, HungerShield has seen the impacts of Hurricane Sandy, and they are committed to contribute to the relief effort. "We feel extremely lucky that lost power and inconvenience were the worst of it for us personally," says Elizabeth DeRobertis, MS, RD, CDE, registered dietitian and HungerShield co-founder. "For us, normalcy returned in a matter of weeks, for others, the timetable is uncertain and frightening. We had to do something to help."

HungerShield, an appetite control drink mix developed by nutritionists, was launched in May 2012 and has been received incredibly well by local health practitioners, pharmacies and consumers. HungerShield's stick packets contain a natural blend of protein, fiber and probiotics that can be mixed and consumed on-the-go, and can be used in conjunction with any healthy eating or weight loss program to help control cravings.

Within a matter of months, HungerShield's product has grown to over 36 store locations across five states, along with rapidly growing online sales both in the U.S. and abroad. With their growing success in mind, the HungerShield team has pledged to donate 15% of all of their November online sales to The United Way Hurricane Sandy Recovery Fund.

Over the last quarter, HungerShield experienced a 40% growth in online sales. "We are so appreciative for the early acquisition of our product, the recognition of the credibility, and our momentum in building our customer base," says DeRobertis. "It all started with our local communities, so it made it even more important to us to find a way to contribute."
