The San Francisco 49ers have been planning the move from San Francisco to soon to be renamed Santa Clara Stadium for years now but the pain of the move for season ticket holders has more to do with the new ticket prices and Stadium Builders Licenses or SBLs. At Preferred Seating tickets they have heard from dozens of long time season ticket holders, many from as far back as the Kaesar Stadium days who have been unanimous in passing on the new season tickets because of the high SBL prices.
It was only 9 years ago in 2003 that every seat at Candlestick Park had a face value of $58 each. And that was double the price from 1989 when $25 could get you a season ticket on the 50 yard line. Currently there are different prices for different seat locations and season ticket holders get a break in price over those that just buy individual games.
The 49ers were so bad for a long period of time and with prices continuing to climb to well over $100 per ticket, many season ticket holders had already given up their seats before the team turned things around last year. “At this time there may be more ticket brokers with 49ers season tickets than fans with season tickets” according to Greg Cullen at PreferredSeat.com. “And with the new 49ers stadium expect that to shift to corporate season ticket holders.”
Looking at the ticket pricing for the new 49ers Stadium that were released to the general public the cheapest ticket will run $85 each for an upper end zone or corner seat with a $2,000 per ticket SBL. A good seat will run $125 - $150 per seat with a $5000 - $6000 SBL. This is why most of the current 49er season ticket holders are coming to the realization that the price for a world class stadium may cost more than they are willing to spend, or as in some cases, more time than they have left on earth.
Even ticket brokers with hundreds of season tickets are planning on dumping those as well. “It’s tough to pencil in the profits when you have so many unknown variables” says Cullen. “You have to count on a good economy, a great team and good opponents to eventually make a profit many years from now when you factor in the SBLs.” This leaves the large corporate base in the Santa Clara – San Jose area as the new fans for the soon to be renamed, Santa Clara 49ers.
Fans have been buying San Francisco 49ers tickets without any hidden service fees from Preferred Seating since 1987 with their direct connection to SF 49ers season ticket holders. The family owned sports ticket broker specializes in premium seats within the yard lines with an emphasis on the 49ers side of the field.
