“My hope rests with people who are addicted and have given up trying to recover, as well as with their families and friends,” Sharkey says. “My hope is that through reading ‘Sanity 365,’ they may try one more time.”

For drug and alcohol addicts, the road to recovery is a long one, riddled with many unpleasant and unexpected obstacles. And as research shows, there is not a one-size-fits-all roadmap to guide the way. “Sanity 365: Daily Help For Sane Living” (published by Balboa Press), Norm Sharkey’s new book of advice to recovering addicts, simply offers practical help to support people making the courageous effort to improve their lives.

“Many, many methods have been developed over the years to help addicts in the process of getting cleans and staying clean,” says Sharkey, a recovering addict of 40 years. “It matters not what methods we use to stay drug free. The important thing is that we do.”

Sharkey offers recovering addicts a new kind of treatment plan in the pages of “Sanity 365.” The book contains short, simple messages of motivation and encouragement for every day of the year.

An excerpt from “Sanity 365”:

“A new year and a new live have begun. For a change, we can look ahead with hope. When someone says, ‘Happy New Year,’ to us, we can, for once, believe it can be. On past New Year’s Days we were either stoned, coming down, or starting to get stoned again. We felt that drugs were the only way to be happy. Getting clean and being happy can change that!”

The book is now being incorporated into the therapy sessions at Our House Way of Addiction Recovery, a treatment center founded and directed by Sharkey. In fact, the book’s cover shows the faces of real people who have used “Sanity 365” to help stay clean for at least two years.

“My hope rests with people who are addicted and have given up trying to recover, as well as with their families and friends,” Sharkey says. “My hope is that through reading ‘Sanity 365,’ they may try one more time.”
