Santa Monica, CA (PRWEB) March 28, 2013
Otis College of Art and Design will be holding its second Annual Kite Festival adjacent to the Santa Monica Pier on Sunday, April 14, 2013 from 10am to 4pm.
Headlining a day of flying kites and other inflatables will be world-renowned kite maker Tom Van Sant along with a kite performance by acclaimed kite-makers Melanie Walker and George Peters.
The day was created with the intention of bringing families and communities throughout Los Angeles together with Otis College of Art and Design. Children from the organizations Urban Compass, Junior Blind of America, Children’s Bureau, and St. Jude’s Hospital will be bussed down to the beach to fly and create their own lightweight kites. Otis students and alumni will join them for a fun-filled day of kite flying, caricature drawing, sand castle building, and face painting.
The festival will take place directly north of the Santa Monica Pier, parking will be provided at the Santa Monica Pier Parking Lot for a fee of $8. Entrance to the kite festival is free.
“This is a fantastic event for the whole family,” says Richard Shelton, Director of Integrated Learning at Otis College of Art and Design. “Kids will have an opportunity to work on their own creation and watch some truly inspiring kites take to the skies.”
