September is National Recovery Month. In communities throughout the country, stories of personal triumph and possibility are being told and acknowledged, bearing witness to those still struggling with alcohol and drugs of the hope available in Recovery. One such story is Santa Monica Sam’s, a recovering alcoholic / addict who has utilized his talent as a singer / song writer to create “this thing called ADDICTION” a song and video that reflects his personal experience with addiction and long term Recovery.

September is National Recovery Month. What is known is that thousands of individuals are effected either directly or indirectly by the ravages of drug addiction and alcoholism daily. What is far less publicized is that a growing, thriving group of individuals who are recovering from a seemingly hopeless state of mind and body that afflicts the alcoholic and addict. The good news is recovery is possible and the best news is every wins, the individual who is directly affected, their family, friends and the community where they live and work.

One such individual goes by the name Santa Monica Sam, a former addict and alcoholic, he has spent a considerable number of years as a member of the recovery community. Santa Monica Sam has embraced a healthy, positive life style and attempts to contribute whatever he can, wherever he can in the community.

Santa Monica Sam’s latest contribution, is a single from his recently released album entitled “Universal Flow”. The single is named, “this thing called ADDICTION” and it reflects Santa Monica Sam’s experience, strength and hope regarding drug addiction and alcoholism. The song utilizes Rap / Hip-Hop to tell what it was like, what happened and what it is like now. Santa Monica Sam has created a moving portrayal of recovery and the hope it embodies. National Recovery Month was established 23 years ago to raise community awareness about the destructiveness of alcoholism and addiction and the healing potential of recovery. Santa Monica Sam’s “this thing called ADDICTION” puts National Recovery Month's message into a medium, where it can be seen and heard; benefiting the greatness number of people possible.
