"Making smartShift’s tools for custom ABAP code analysis and remediation available as part of the SAP Upgrade Assessment service complements SAP’s tools and suite of knowledge-based accelerators" - Dr. P. Easwaran, VP, N. Am ITTS Sales, SAP America, Inc.
Cambridge, MA (PRWEB) May 16, 2011
smartShift, a Cambridge Technology Enterprises (NSE: CTE) company and a leading provider of solutions for the analysis and remediation of custom ABAP™ programming language code, today announced its parser-based custom code analysis and remediation solutions are now available through the SAP® Upgrade Assessment service delivered by SAP Services in North America. By using smartShift’s tools as part of the SAP Upgrade Assessment service, customers can address readiness and challenges related to upgrades, saving time and costs related to technical remediation work of custom ABAP code.
“When it comes to managing upgrades of SAP software, SAP Services has the knowledge and expertise to provide easy and consistent access to solution services, resources and tools from SAP and its partners, which leads to successful completion of upgrade projects for customers,” said Dr. Prakash Easwaran, vice president, North America IT Transformation Services (ITTS) Sales, SAP America, Inc. “Making smartShift’s tools for custom ABAP code analysis and remediation available as part of the SAP Upgrade Assessment service complements SAP’s tools and suite of knowledge-based accelerators. The combination will help save additional time and costs for our customers upgrading SAP solutions.”
The SAP Upgrade Assessment service offers guidance, training, and business and technology assessments to help customers pave the way for successful upgrade projects. Through the service, SAP Services consultants assist customers in evaluating key issues of time, cost and existing infrastructure during the planning and execution of an upgrade of the SAP ERP application. With four unique offerings -- technical upgrade assessment, custom development analysis, upgrade project planning and application-specific upgrade advice -- the service allows the flexibility for customers to engage only the services that meet their specific upgrade requirements.
The smartShift solutions, which can now be used during an SAP-managed upgrade project, may be used in two steps. First, during the assessment phase, smartShift detects and categorizes issues with ABAP custom code, such as those related to release upgrades, clones, similar code and Unicode errors. Second, smartShift’s rules-based technology automatically generates remediated ABAP custom code, replaces months of iterative manual coding, virtually eliminates runtime errors, minimizes development downtime, and reduces testing requirements for upgrades to new releases of SAP solutions and Unicode projects.
"Making smartShift’s solutions available as a component of the SAP Upgrade Assessment service will deliver additional capabilities to customers that will help them accurately scope projects, while greatly minimizing costs and risks,” said Stefan Hetges, CEO, smartShift. “Our automated parser-based approach, unlike scan-and-replace technologies, provides more detailed and accurate impact analysis of coding issues and eliminates error-prone manual code interventions.”
