By using smartShift’s tools as part of the SAP Upgrade Assessment service, customers can address readiness and challenges related to upgrades, saving time and costs related to technical remediation work of custom ABAP code.

The SAP Upgrade Assessment service offers guidance, training, and business and technology assessments to help customers pave the way for successful upgrade projects. Through the service, SAP Services consultants assist customers in evaluating key issues of time, cost and existing infrastructure during the planning and execution of an upgrade of the SAP ERP application. With four unique offerings -- technical upgrade assessment, custom development analysis, upgrade project planning and application-specific upgrade advice -- the service allows the flexibility for customers to engage only the services that meet their specific upgrade requirements.

The smartShift solutions, which can now be used during an SAP-managed upgrade project, may be used in two steps. First, during the assessment phase, smartShift detects and categorizes issues with ABAP custom code, such as those related to release upgrades, clones, similar code and Unicode errors. Second, smartShift’s rules-based technology automatically generates remediated ABAP custom code, replaces months of iterative manual coding, virtually eliminates runtime errors, minimizes development downtime, and reduces testing requirements for upgrades to new releases of SAP solutions and Unicode projects.
