We are excited to offer 3G data service for a worldwide solution to match our customers’ needs. They will receive a global roaming package provided by Satcom Direct and backed by an established global network.

Satcom Direct, provider of satellite voice, fax, datalink and Internet communications solutions, announces its advanced avionics router; the Satcom Direct Router (SDR™) will have 3G data connectivity functionality built-in, offering worldwide 3G data service to aircraft while on the ground.

The SDR supports the use of 3G service worldwide while on the ground, seamlessly switching between satellite data and 3G service in the background. Flight crews and passengers will not experience a disruption in data service during taxi, takeoff or landing. The 3G data functionality also provides a cost-effective way for customers to get updates for onboard systems, push data off of the aircraft for analysis, and extends the availability of Satcom Direct’s services, resulting in a user experience that is consistent both on the ground and in the air.

“We are excited to offer 3G data service for a worldwide solution to match our customers’ needs. They will receive a global roaming package provided by Satcom Direct and backed by an established global network,” said Curt Gray, Chief Technology Officer at Satcom Direct. “Having reliable access to data service whether you’re in the air or on the ground is important to our customers, and remote access for Satcom Direct’s support team, even while the aircraft is in the hangar, makes configuration and diagnosis of on-board communications systems easier and more timely.”

Satcom Direct will provide the hardware and also the billing for the 3G data service on aircraft. This new 3G data service is part of Satcom Direct’s consolidated billing, so Satcom Direct customers will continue to receive a single bill for all aircraft data and voice services.

The 3G data service functionality will be available upon certification of the SDR, which is expected before the end of the year.

The SDR will be on display and available for demonstrations in the Satcom Direct booth #N4107 at the National Business Aviation Association (NBAA) Business Aviation Convention and Exhibition in Las Vegas, Nevada, Oct. 22 to 24 at the Las Vegas Convention Center and also in space 170 at the show’s static display at Henderson Executive Airport.
