Leica Geosystems Reduces Dependency for Reference Station with Advanced IPAS PPP Post-Processing Software

IPAS PPP software determines high accuracy position and velocity data from a single Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) receiver. It then uses Precise Point Positioning (PPP) technology to take advantage of precise satellite orbit and satellite clock corrections while post-processing the trajectory of the sensor flight mission.

Norcross, Ga., 28 March 2007) - Traditionally, building highly accurate image-based maps in remote areas is difficult and time consuming, particularly as reference station data, to coordinate aerial data, is frequently unavailable. In response, Leica Geosystems has developed IPAS PPP Post Processing Software, an innovative post-processing software package within the Inertial Position & Attitude System (IPAS) product family that reduces the need for reference station data.

The automatic download of precise satellite orbit and clock correction data ensures intelligent correction selection that corresponds to the flight mission time and data provided by multiple analysis centers.

The addition of the PPP technology to the IPAS product makes IPAS the most versatile airborne positioning and attitude system available, allowing the acquisition of highly accurate imagery in areas never before possible. We at Leica Geosystems are very pleased to bring product to the industry at this time as the need for position-accurate imagery is growing so quickly.
George Southard, vice president, Digital Imaging at Leica Geosystems, said, "The addition of the PPP technology to the IPAS product makes IPAS the most versatile airborne positioning and attitude system available, allowing the acquisition of highly accurate imagery in areas never before possible. We at Leica Geosystems are very pleased to bring product to the industry at this time as the need for position-accurate imagery is growing so quickly."

Typical position accuracy from IPAS PPP is 15 centimeters horizontal and 20 centimeters in height. The IPAS PPP Post Processing Software can accept GPS data based on the industry standard, Receiver Independent Exchange Format (RINEX), which allows data input from a wide range of receivers.

The IPAS PPP Post Processing software works with Leica Geosystems Airborne Sensors, such as the Leica ADS40 Airborne Digital Sensor and the Leica ALS50-II Airborne Laser Scanner, and is also suitable for use with other systems.
