New features allow IT organizations to do significantly more with existing Operations Manager 2007 installations. These features ensure that employees at all levels, from the IT operator to the business executive, have access to the maps needed to proactively manage IT problems that affect business operations.

Version 3 gives organizations running Microsoft System Center Operations Manager 2007 a powerful web-enabled solution to create end-to-end service topologies, business process and executive dashboard maps. Additionally, the latest version allows maps to become network link aware ensuring that connectivity problems are easily identifiable. These enhancements coupled with new wizards and templates provide unparalleled visualization options for IT organizations.

"With Live Maps v3, we are able to rapidly deploy maintenance-free monitoring maps for our 800 locations," said Diego Zamora, IT Manager, IT Manager at one of the world's largest shipping companies. "The new version allows us to define simple rules that help dynamically build and update maps. We were able to create hundreds of geographically connected maps in an hour. And, these maps are automatically updated as our environment changes. Live Maps has allowed us to build maps that truly unlock our investment in Microsoft Operations Manager."

Live Maps puts Operations Manager's health states and alerts in business terms. Only Live Maps allows IT Pros to map IT objects into dashboards, business processes and service topologies. Live Maps brings real-time, relevant information to users based on role. IT Pros see topologies and geographic maps. Business users see processes. Executives see dashboards. Everyone gets the right view.

By importing or creating process flows in Live Maps, business process owners are able to create end-to-end views of critical customer-facing and back-office business processes. This provides process owners with the context and visibility to proactively monitor, measure and manage critical processes without prolonged and constant interaction with IT administrators.

Application and Network Topologies
Live Maps v3 allows IT Pros to create true end-to-end diagrams of applications and network. These diagrams display real-time status. Health states are constantly updated as an IT environment changes. With Live Maps, IT Pros can now combine essential, non-discoverable information stored in Visio diagrams and Excel spreadsheets with real-time monitoring data collected by Operations Manager 2007. In Live Maps v3, drawing and diagramming may be completed using Operations Manager 2007's live objects directly in Live Map's Authoring console. Simple drag and drop operations combined with Live Maps v3 new advanced drawing controls make map construction fast and easy.

Monitor by Critical Business Processes
Nowadays almost every business process depends on IT systems. High-functioning business processes are critical to any businesses revenue generation. IT failures that affect business operations must be instantly discovered and resolved. Live Maps v3 empowers IT organizations to not only discover IT problems in the context of a business process, but it also helps proactively identify them before customers are impacted. Live Map's new business process shapes enables manager to easily model key processes in relation to IT systems used to deliver them. With this enhancement all levels, from the IT operator to business process owner, are giving real-time insight into the health of a business process. Additionally, Live Map's advanced availability reports provide historical reports necessary to optimize processes and ensure IT organizations are meeting critical service levels.

Monitor by Geography
Today's businesses are dispersed. Most mid-sized and large organizations have branch, regional or country specific offices. Each office is connected creating a complex web of local and centralized system and service dependencies. Only Live Maps allows IT organizations to rapidly gain insight into the current health of IT systems in a geographical context. Live Maps v3 allows IT pros to build rule-driven, dynamically updated maps atop any of the 300+ provided geographical maps. Maps can be easily nested to create a simple world map above regional, country and city level maps.

Monitor by Racks in a Datacenter
Staying abreast of changes in a Datacenter's physical layout can be overwhelming. Until Live Maps v3, IT Managers would have to constantly battle to maintain accurate rack and server level diagrams. Now with Live Maps v3 this difficult task becomes a lot easier. Live Maps v3 allows IT Pros to combine existing or new datacenter and rack diagrams with the wealth of information collected by Operations Manager 2007. This combination results in an easy to understand, always up-to-date, graphical representation of the health of a datacenter's physical layout

Monitor with Dashboards
Understanding high-level affects of IT problems are critical for rapidly communicating with executives and business users. Communication during IT failures consumes time and often distracts IT pros from fixing problems. Live Maps new dashboard templates make creating top-level views easy to understand for any user drastically reducing the communication burden during a failure. Live Map's dashboards provide easy-to-understand views of the state of an IT environment. Any perspective, location, business process or IT service can be displayed via a web browser to inquiring users. Using the built-in drill down feature authorized users can still easily identify the root cause of a problem in a few clicks.
