SC Magazine Announces Call for Papers – Closes March 31

SC Congress Canada 2011

Since our first Canadian event was an absolute hit, with tremendous feedback from our attendees, partners and speakers, we decided to hold our second conference earlier in the calendar year to further support and enhance Canadian information security.

After an incredibly successful launch of the SC Congress Canada last year, SC Magazine today announced SC Congress Canada 2011, the premier Canadian event for information security industry leaders. The 2011 SC Congress Canada will again feature cutting-edge sessions and dialogue coming from Canada’s top industry professionals from the country’s private and public sectors. Taking place in Toronto on June 14 through 15, 2011, public registration will open soon for the event.

SC Congress Canada is currently opening a call for papers from Canadian security professionals to discuss practical security solutions, advice and suggestions that participants can take back and put to work inside their businesses immediately. Speaking submissions will be accepted through March 31, 2011.

This must-attend security event will tackle real-world security challenges and offer solutions to help Canadian private and public security professionals thwart cyber attackers, safeguard critical assets, come into compliance with regulatory mandates, and ultimately contribute to the overall profitability of their organizations.

SC Congress Canada will feature timely breakout sessions where Canadian subject matter experts will address the most pressing IT security questions and challenges. The sessions will follow three tracks, Emerging Threats/Management, Technical and Editor’s Choice, including topics such as:

  •     The WikiLeaks - What Happened and How to Prevent it

Wikileaks, whether you agree with their premise or not, took social engineering and very basic hacking to a new level. Learn what really happened technically as opposed to socially and how to prevent such crazy behavior in the future.

  •     Stuxnet - When Will it End?

Cyber attacks, in general, get lots of press as they are interesting and are 'cool' to know about. But Stuxnet was a wakeup call for the power industry and, in general, those using certain SCADA systems. Learn what really happened here and why this is still a major threat today.

  •     Threat of the Hour

Hear from a leading CERT team member what they and their systems are seeing as the latest most dangerous cyber threat, how it was found and what is being done about it.

  •     Going Mobile

Consumerization of the enterprise is now officially in the rear view mirror. If your organization hasn't started mitigating the mobile threat, it will shortly be too late. Learn about today’s mobile threat landscape and how you can defend against it.

  •     Selling Security to Management

The CISO needs a seat at the table to help guide an organization through the major technology shifts in today’s organizations. More often than not, however, this isn't the case. Learn how to make yourself part of the overall enterprise risk discussion and get a buy in from management.

“Last year, we held an extremely successful inaugural event and brought together Canada’s most esteemed security leaders such as Jennifer Stoddert, Scott D. Swartz, and Dr. Ann Cavoukian,” said Illena Armstrong, editor-in-chief, SC Magazine. “Since our first Canadian event was an absolute hit, with tremendous feedback from our attendees, partners and speakers, we decided to hold our second conference earlier in the calendar year to further support and enhance Canadian information security. This year’s agenda is already jam packed with topics from Wiki Leaks and Stuxnet to mobile security and tips for selling your security program up stream. We look forward to seeing you at SC Congress Canada 2011, and providing the ‘know how’ that will help the good fight against cybercriminals and, ultimately, shape the Canadian security landscape.”

Keynotes and additional breakout sessions will be announced in the coming weeks. A full list of speakers, a conference agenda, media partners, sponsors and participant registration can be found at
