“That’s genius!” Are these the excited comments of an aspiring young actor upon seeing Scene Partner at the recent International Thespian Festival? Well, yes actually…but it was also the reaction of fellow exhibitors at the 24th Annual CQIA Conference on Quality and Innovation at the University of Hartford this week.

Already the recipient of multiple awards for design excellence, MyTheaterApps.com was awarded a Gold CQIA Innovation Prize this week for its Scene Partner App, a powerful new iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch app that helps actors tackle the problem of how to memorize lines in a unique and innovative new way. The App was a favorite among fellow honorees exhibiting at this year’s awards ceremony, which was held at the Gray Center on the campus of the University of Hartford.

Scene Partner merges text to speech software, voice recording and advanced algorithms to deliver a new cutting edge tool for actors who perform in educational, community and professional theaters. Whether actors learn aurally, by listening to their lines over and over, or visually, by focusing on the written text, Scene Partner gives them a modern solution for how to learn lines. Actors can download a free lite version of Scene Partner from Apple’s AppStore or purchase the full version there for only $4.99.

J. Kevin Smith, owner of MyTheaterApps.com, joined a diverse group of more than 40 Connecticut companies also exhibiting at the Conference. Other recipients included Greenwich Hospital, awarded for their work with Sepsis patients, Energizer Personal Care, for their introduction of the new Hydro shaver, and KAMAN Aerospace Corporation, the developer of unmanned aerial vehicles for the Defense Department.

Commenting on the event, Connecticut Lt. Governor Nancy Wyman said, “The CQIA award program is a great way to showcase some of the incredible business talent that we have in Connecticut. These are exactly the kind of businesses – and the kind of people behind them – that our economy needs right now, and Governor Malloy and I are committed to helping them and CQIA succeed.”
