AIC*, College of Design, Cincinnati, Announces Collaboration “Partners In Art Education” Offering 100, $6000 Scholarships to 2012-13 First Year Students Entering AIC

In a groundbreaking collaborative effort by Cincinnati area businesses, along with AIC College of Design, 100 scholarships worth $6000 each will be awarded to top art students interested in attending the fall program. Each student must be recommended by their high school art instructor and ready to attend college beginning with the fall semester.

Product ad campaigns are created at AIC as part of their program.

“One of the things that makes our college unique,” said co-founder Marion Allman, “is that we spend a lot of time helping them get placed in a job suited for their skills and training."

Cincinnati’s premier, 36-year old graphic design school, AIC* College of Design announced this week a groundbreaking collaboration of ten area businesses to create “Partners in Art Education.” This outstanding program answers the need for art instruction in the everyday workplace. With practical courses like Graphic Design, Illustration, Package Design, Digital Photography, Multi-media, Interactive Media and Web Design, AIC College of Design students enter the work place with the skill sets needed to hit the ground running.

“One of the things that makes our college unique,” said co-founder Marion Allman, “is that we spend a lot of time helping them get placed in a job suited for their skills and training. We work with numerous companies in our area, and across the country, which uses the educational services we provide to our students. Additionally, we create a full color “Creative Hiring Guide” at the end of the school year featuring each of our graduating students with a full-page of their projects for prospective employees to view. No other school provides this kind of job-related service to their graduates.”

The scholarship program is limited to the first 100 students who apply with a recommendation from their high school art instructor or teacher. Teachers are asked to carefully screen only their best students and select the one with the most potential for an education in graphic design. With high schools, middle schools, and even elementary schools cutting back on creative art programs like music, arts and theater, AIC feels the need for artistic expression is even greater.

“Art is such an important part of each of our lives. In today’s high technology atmosphere, people think art is a dying career. But in actuality, there are hundreds of jobs that utilize the skills we teach. Just walk through your local grocery store, pick up a magazine or browse through a book store. From printed ads to on-line content, everything you see has been created by an artist of some kind,” Marion Allman said.

Businesses who support the Arts in School program include LaRosa’s, Jewel King, Venue, Lovins Insurance, Design Team, Plaza Art, Ernst and Rabe CPAs, Pendery, VCS Design, and Cold Springs Electrical Contractors.

For students interested in more information, and for teachers who want to nominate a student, the AIC College of Design web site has the necessary nomination form. A white paper is also available to download with a listing of jobs in the graphic design field. Deadline for nominations is July 15, 2012 with students entering the fall session. Students graduate from AIC after a two-year program with an Associates Degree of Applied Sciences in Graphic Design.
