Sven Michael Davison is proud to have his book, "State of Mind" in the “Rocky Mountain Authors” display in his hometown bookstore. “I remember going to The Tattered Cover as a kid and browsing the shelves with my older sister and parents. I loved how The Tattered Cover felt like an old house filled with tall wooden bookshelves and comfy chairs to read in. Given the beauty and diversity in Denver and Colorado as a whole, I feel the Rocky Mountain state had a big influence on making me who I am today. Local institutions like the Tattered Cover were a part of that experience.”
Davison attended Montessori school in Arvada, grade school at East Ridge Elementary in Aurora, and then Dry Creek Elementary in what is now Centennial. He attended Campus Middle Unit for junior high school and graduated from Cherry Creek High School. He sang in a rock cover band that played the Denver Turnverein and the now defunct Fun Plex. Davison had films featured on KBDI, a public broadcast station in Broomfield back in the day.
“In an era when any person can crank out a book and publish it within a hundred hours or less, it’s nice to know there are still establishments where a reader can browse for well-crafted tales in a friendly environment, such as the Tattered Cover.” Davison adds.
“State of Mind” is a finalist and winner of two Dan Poynter’s Global eBook Awards.
“State of Mind” is a cautionary tale that examines the loss of freedom in a classic post-industrial dystopia. Jake Travissi, a fallen hero, is given a rare second chance at redemption. The price? Volunteer to have a computer chip implanted in his brain and join Homeland Security’s experimental Enhanced Unit.
Davison wrestles with many of the most compelling themes of cyberpunk genre today: Should we embrace every technological advance without question? Should humankind blend itself physically with machines? What does freedom really mean? All of these questions are answered within a vivid tapestry where the boundaries between the virtual world and the real world have dissolved.
“A thoughtfully composed piece of cyberpunk that will please readers of both science fiction and noir.” – Kirkus Reviews
“Davison’s Los Angeles is pulpy- vibrant, an unforgettable wasteland. State of Mind is the world of the near future, the horrible synthesis of human desire and the technology to make it a reality. – ForeWord Reviews
“This book deserves to go directly to the ‘Top Ten Best Sellers List.’” – Deb Shunamon, Reader Views. http://www.readerviews.com/ReviewDavidsonStateOfMind.html
“There are some crazy twists and turns in this novel and the end? One word… WOW. It totally blew me away. There are plenty of shocking, hanging on the edge of my seats moments. – Alice Bola, http://girlsjustreading.blogspot.com/
Davison has worked as a trailer copywriter at Paramount Pictures and a staff screenwriter for several other smaller production companies. He was head of 20th Century Fox’s Worldwide Content and Production Department for ten years. He is currently Vice President of Production at 1K Studios, a multi-media solutions company based in Burbank, CA. This is his second novel.
