Hop Scotch Spring Beer and Scotch Festival offers spirit aficionados and novices an opportunity to sample the flavors of Scotch and Tequila in an accessible and educational two-day festival. The featured spirits will be presented in formats suited for tasting experts and newbies May 8th and 9th at Fremont Studios (155 N. 35th Street).
Scotch can be an overwhelming beverage to new comers; learning the distinction between Scotch and Whiskey, deciphering the four distinct categories of single malt, vatted malt, blended and single grain, along with mastering the drink preparation for enhanced taste. Hop Scotch allows guests to learn the differences first hand with two unique tasting experiences. For a true hands-on guided tour of the world of Scotch, join Master of Whisky Ari Shapiro in a one-hour private "Scotch Tasting Seminar" highlighting eight premium Scotches through an in-depth educational tasting.
"This is a great opportunity to taste and discover your favorite Scotch blend at a great price point," says Creative Director, Phil Megenhardt. "With each Scotch bottle in our tasting ranging from $50-$120 it allows guests to try before committing to an expensive purchase in a pub or store."
Seminars will be held on Friday, May 8th at 7 p.m. and Saturday May 9th at 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. For those looking for a more casual introduction to Scotch, sample five-¼ oz. "Whiskies of the World," in a self-guided tasting in the "Scotch Tasting Lounge." Representatives of the Whiskies will be on hand for questions and tasting advice.
Watch out for tantalized taste buds in a post Cinco de Mayo sampling of super-premium 100% agave Tequilas in the "Tequila Tasting Cantina." The tasting flight will include five-¼ oz. pours of Don Julio 1942, Don Julio Anejo, Don Julio Blanco, Don Julio Roposado and Jose Cuervo Platino. Tequila experts will be available during the self-guided tasting for questions and answers. Guests can also indulge in Small Lot Co-op wines, Mexican beer flights and over 50 fresh seasonal spring beers.
