SC Whitmore’s self-paced, mastery curriculum is flexible enough to allow all students to find their educational niche and learn at a pace and in a style that really works for them.

Local students Cameron Taylor of Irmo, and Donnia Gayten of Kershaw represented SC Whitmore School, a virtual charter high school, in the Chapin Labor Day Parade on a float themed “School – Any Time – Any Place.”

Students on the Labor Day float are depicted as “going to school” from their bedroom, a comfy chair, and even the beach. This depiction emphasizes the freedom SC Whitmore students have to log into school any time of day from any place where they have internet access.

“Cameron and Donnia had so much fun representing our school in the parade,” says Principal Ellen Ray. “Cameron is a senior at SC Whitmore and has been enrolled since the school’s opening in 2011. She is well on her way to finishing high school early because of our self-paced program. And Donnia has made wonderful progress at SC Whitmore as well. She has expressed how much the school’s flexibility has made a difference for her and allowed her to fit her education to her learning style.”

SC Whitmore School is available to students throughout the state who need an alternative to their local public school for any reason. “We have such a wide variety of students with such a range of needs,” says Ray, “from accelerated students who want to finish early or take college classes, to students who have been struggling just to survive high school. SC Whitmore’s self-paced, mastery curriculum is flexible enough to allow all students to find their educational niche and learn at a pace and in a style that really works for them. Even if they are in their pajamas. No dress code here!”

SC Whitmore School is powered by CompuHigh, an online educational company who provides most of the curriculum as well as the LMS (learning management system). CompuHigh’s curriculum is accredited by AdvancED and is approved by the state of South Carolina. SC Whitmore classes are taught by certified teachers specially trained in Mastery Online Education. Teachers interact individually with each student in each lesson of their online courses.

SC Whitmore School is enrolling new students for the 2013-2014 school-year. Interested families can go to http://www.sc.whitmoreschool.com or call 1-866-476-6416 for more details and to register.
