The 4th European Semantic Technology Conference -- ESTC2010 – is scheduled in Vienna, Austria December 2-3, 2010. The aim of the conference is to bring together the world's leading thinkers, innovators, developers, engineers, and senior practitioners within organizations responsible for information technology and systems in one place to learn about how to integrate this unparalleled technology into their operations.

The first day of the conference will be all about innovative business ideas, starting with Victor Henning, the CEO of the successful company Mendeley, recounting his experience about how to get started and make a hit with an original business concept.

Following the keynote, selected startup companies will present their ideas to a panel of experts and venture capitalists at the aws ESTC Innovation Seed Camp.

In the afternoon, an expert panel will discuss the relationship between startups and VCs. The second panel, organized by StartEurope, will talk about the importance of interdisciplinary teams as a development challenge in startup companies.

Parallel to this topic line, two workshops will complement the program: the ACTIVE Showcase workshop will present the developed possibilities on increasing organizational productivity, and the LOD2 workshop will cover business scenarios with Linked Enterprise Data.

The first conference day will be concluded with the traditional and well praised ESTC buffet reception, taking place in the beautiful Palmhouse. The winners of the aws ESTC Innovation Seed Camp will be announced during the evening reception.

Peter Mika from Yahoo! Research will open the second conference day, focusing his talk on semantic technologies for search and online media.

The day will continue with invited talks by representatives from Salzburg Research, Innovatia and FTW. Two expert panels, with representatives from Verizon Communications Incorporation, Ontos AG, Atos Origin and Ontotext, will discuss the two hyped topics: Future Internet and Linked Open Data.

A reception with wine and finger food will conclude this year’s ESTC, offering a relaxed closing atmosphere.

All participants are also welcome to attend the ESTC co-located events taking place one day before the conference. A unique event focusing on EU project funding opportunities for SMEs will facilitate partner search, topical focus and the first steps towards developing proposals for SME-specific calls. Following this event, the Vienna Semantic Web Meetup will take place in the evening, offering a lot of occasions to meet "old friends" and newcomers to discuss Semantic Web related topics. Both events will take place at the Forum Mozartplatz, in the 4th Vienna district.

Savvy technologists are invited to attend the second-level training course in semantic technologies hosted the week prior to ESTC. The Semantic Technology Professional training course is the intermediate certification endorsed by STI International which confirms the trainees’ progressive expertise in semantic technologies and their advanced utility and application. It affords trainees with an in-depth concentration on knowledge representation and reasoning, ontology lifecycles and the fundamentals behind Linked Data and mature semantic applications.
