Business Leaders, Technologists and Investors Provide Multi-Faceted Look at Semantic Technology

As semantic technology secures its place in the business sector -- providing an increasing number of organizations with financial and operational value -- business leaders, IT developers, entrepreneurs and venture capitalists are uniting to give professionals a multi-faceted look at how each is using the newest semantic innovations for commercial advancement.

San Jose, CA (PRWEB) May 1, 2007 -- Amidst an atmosphere of mainstream media buzz over the practical applications of semantic technology, Wilshire Conferences announces the keynote speakers scheduled to appear at the upcoming Semantic Technology Conference, May 20-24 at the Fairmont San Jose, in San Jose, California.

For the first time in its three-year history, this year's Semantic Technology Conference features two interactive keynote panels aimed at providing attendees with a comprehensive look at the players and products that comprise the current (and future) state of the industry. These panels will showcase key customers, developers and entrepreneurs -- as well as leaders in the venture capitalism sector -- who have already made major commitments to semantic technologies in their product and service offerings, applications and investment portfolios.

The opening keynote session, "Semantic Technology -- Here and Now ," brings together some of the most respected names in business to share how they are already using semantic technology to add significant value to their organizations:

  • Robert Shimp, Vice President, Global Technology Business Unit at Oracle on how Oracle is employing semantic technologies and model-driven metadata (including grid computing, service oriented architecture, and social computing) in a wide range of applications such as data integration, Web services management, enterprise search and navigation, and collaboration.
  • Richard Mark Soley, Chairman and CEO of Object Management Group on how Object Management Group is using a consensus-based approach in the area of semantic system development to target SOA, business process management, and business rules.
  • Dave Beckett, Principal Technical Yahoo at Yahoo! On how the Yahoo.com food site is effectively using RDF and proving their belief that "A Little Semantics Goes a Long Way".
  • Tom Ilube, CEO of Garlik on how UK-based Garlik is employing "Billions of Triples and Counting" to provide advanced fraud-monitoring services.
  • Andrew Schain, CTO at NASA Headquarters on how NASA is successfully using Semantic Web technologies to tackle its huge and complex data issue.

The second keynote, "Building the Semantic Technology Industry: A Conversation with Entrepreneurs and Investors ," features a candid discussion amongst the people who are actually building the future of semantic technology from the ground up. Moderated by Mills Davis of Project 10x, panelists include:

  • Nova Spivack, CEO and Founder of Radar Networks
  • Mark Greaves, Senior Research Program Manager at Vulcan Inc.
  • Russell Glass, VP Products and Marketing at Zoom Information
  • Bradley Allen, Founder and CTO of Siderean Software
  • John Giannandrea, Chief Technology Officer at Metaweb
  • Eghosa Omoigui, Director of Strategic Investments at Intel Capital
  • and Safa Rashtchy, Senior Research Analyst at Piper Jaffray.

A crack program advisory board assembled this year's keynote speakers with the feedback of previous audiences in mind. Tony Shaw, President of Wilshire Conferences, noted that "After last year's event, the most overwhelming feedback was in regard to the first-hand accounts from organizational leaders. People find it extremely beneficial to learn from other (often larger) businesses as far as what has worked for them, what hasn't, and exactly how to go about implementing the technology and applications. With this year's keynotes, we have been fortunate to assemble representatives from varying disciplines, those who are creating the applications, investing in them, and using them, to create a detailed snapshot of the current field ... Experience has shown us there's no better way to learn about the value of semantic technology than from those who are actually using it."

In addition to the keynotes, the Semantic Technology Conference boasts over 130 expert speakers, more than 20 solutions sessions, 24 case study presentations and more than 600 attendees.
