Senator Specter has been a great champion for the NIH. He is responsible for the $10.4 billion Recovery Act allocation to NIH for fiscal 2009-2010. UCSF is the second largest recipient of funding from the NIH in the nation.
Academic medical centers like UCSF are turning NIH funds into treatments and new technologies to improve care for patients, and facilitating basic research. The town hall provides an opportunity to see the intersection between what happens in Washington, DC and the issues of importance to the UCSF health sciences audience.
