FindMyCompany, a website marketing firm known for their zany online contests (see: Bananas for SEO), is at it again. For their latest competition, dubbed “The Olympics of SEO,” FMC plans to award bronze, silver, and gold medals to the three best-optimized websites in the world—that is, the best-optimized websites in the world that enter the competition via FMC’s Facebook page. The Olympics of SEO start on August 10th and end August 22nd, ten days after that other Olympic contest wraps up.

The Olympics of SEO

Backlinks, anchor tags, keyword density, yeah, yeah, yeah, you’ve heard it all before. Wouldn’t you rather find out how quickly your website runs the 100 meter, or how far it can toss a javelin?

FindMyCompany, a website marketing firm known for their zany online contests (see: Bananas for SEO), is at it again. For their latest competition, dubbed “The Olympics of SEO,” FMC plans to award bronze, silver, and gold medals to the three best-optimized websites in the world—that is, the best-optimized websites in the world that enter the competition via FMC’s Facebook page. The Olympics of SEO are underway and will end August 22nd, ten days after that other Olympic contest wrapped up.

“We’re trying to put a fun spin on something that, admittedly, can get a little drab at times,” said Stathis Edel, CEO of FindMyCompany and one of the masterminds behind FMC’s latest social contest. “Backlinks, anchor tags, keyword density, yeah, yeah, yeah, you’ve heard it all before. Wouldn’t you rather find out how quickly your website runs the 100 meter, or how far it can toss a javelin?” Stathis added, only half joking.

The competition will consist of many different ranking factors—50 hurdles—but only the three overall winners will be awarded medals. “No, this isn’t your standard website analysis. We’ve come up with an all new set of items on which to judge the websites,” said Rachael Star, head of client integration and social media contact for FindMyCompany. All 50 ranking factors will be revealed after the competition is over—but only to those who have competed.

And although FindMyCompany won’t initially reveal all their criteria for judging websites in the upcoming games, they did say that “site load times, surfability, and social status” will each play an important part in picking the winners. “Think of site speed as track and field and title tag optimization as gymnastics,” said lead web developer Alf Pardo with no further explanation given.

As far as prizes go—what, pride and a socially awarded medal isn’t enough?—FindMyCompany has already announced several promotional rewards on their Facebook page. This includes nationally syndicated Press Releases with mention of winners and their websites and social syndication of winners across 50,000 followers and fans. As FMC marketing leader Leslie Reeves put it, “Why not sign up? It’s free social media advertising for your business, and even if you don’t win, you’re getting a chance to woo potential customers who follow along on Facebook.”

Participation details: visit the official FindMyCompany Facebook page and submit a comment underneath the Olympics of SEO post with a name and website URL, or Business name and URL. Everyone who submits a website will receive a score at the end of the competition. To show an extra competitive spirit, try and guess which ranking factors are considered the most important. This will not be part of the judging process but FMC team members will respond with clues as to which factors are being weighed.

*FindMyCompany customers and Website Marketing Sites are excluded from competition. Winners will be announced within two weeks of end date.
