Microsoft provides System Center Service Manager Authoring Tool (SCSM) to customize and extend the Built-in functionality in System Center Service Manager. However, it lacks several key features needed to easily automate your environment. Based on Windows Workflow and fueled by PowerShell, PowerWF for SCSM brings Service Manager to new levels with increased flexibility and functionality.

  •     Complete IDE with Test and Debugging
  •     Makes leveraging PowerShell Quick and Easy
  •     Remote Deployment of SCSM Management Packs (MPs)

“PowerWF is one tool that every company should have in their arsenal for taking Service Manager to the next level,” said Chris Ross – SCSM Managing Consultant for Catapult Systems. “In minutes you’ll be making powerful automations and meaningful workflows come alive!”

PowerWF is a unique authoring tool that turns PowerShell commands into tool box items that can easily be used to create powerful workflows. PowerWF can convert existing PowerShell scripts into workflows which can then be extended using both PowerShell and non-PowerShell activities. Workflows can be tested directly from PowerWF using a full suite of debugging tools before they are deployed to Microsoft Service Manager (SCSM).

“Providing PowerWF’s authoring experience to Service Manager has been a big win for us and proven to be a real value to Microsoft SCSM customers,” said Brian Butler, CEO of Devfarm Software.

PowerWF simplifies the creation of Microsoft System Center Service Manager management packs for both scheduled and triggered tasks. Once a workflow has been created, it can be deployed to System Center using the Management Pack Creation Wizard. The wizard allows specifying Service Manager triggers to automatically execute the workflow. PowerWF even supports Service Manager bind parameters.

Once a PowerWF workflow has been created, it is also possible to it as a custom SCSM workflow activities that can be used within the standard Microsoft Service Manager’s authoring tool. This allows you to leverage PowerWF extending an existing SCSM Management Pack (MP).
