A few months ago Chris Swanson was a Twitter novice and an unaccomplished poet. Today she is an enthusiastic tweeter and winner of a nationwide poetry prize.
Swanson, a resident of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, recently was selected as the winner in American Home Shield’s online Twitterick contest. The company asked participants to write a limerick of 132 characters or less – short enough to fit in a tweet – about their home buying experience. Swanson’s effort earned first place.
“I couldn’t believe it. I was thrilled,” said Swanson upon hearing the news of her victory. “I usually don’t enter contests and I hadn’t written any kind of poetry in years. And at the time I entered, I hardly knew anything about Twitter. Now I use Twitter all the time!”
American Home Shield, the nation’s leading provider of home warranty coverage, launched the contest in August on their website, http://www.firsthomeexperience.com. They received entries from across the country before selecting Swanson as the winner.
Swanson received a $3,000 Sears gift card, a $500 ServiceMaster gift card, and a Visa gift card worth $750 which can be used toward the purchase of an AHS home warranty service contract. AHS is part of the ServiceMaster family of brands.
Swanson already has definitive plans for some of the money. “My oven is as old as my house, about 50 years old, so I plan to replace it with the prize money,” said Swanson, who is a single mother with two children. “I also want to buy a water heater and maybe have my bath tub replaced.”
