What happens when two of the finest tour companies with decades of expertise, knowledge and passion come together? The result is a tour opportunity of a lifetime. Santa Fe based Seven Directions Custom Tours, in collaboration with Italian tourism company Linnea Tours, have teamed up to create a 10-day permaculture and botanical tour though New Mexico and Arizona that’s best described as fascinating, breathtaking and culturally enriching.

The 10-day odyssey stretches throughout the great American Southwest from Santa Fe to the Grand Canyon, Sedona, Phoenix and Tucson. The one-of-a-kind tour gives guests the opportunity to discover the plants and flowers of the Southwest through in-depth exploration of the land filled with memories and secrets of civilizations long gone.

The tour will be led by a hand-picked tour guide fluent in English, French and Italian. Emotions will be stirred as guests visit ancient sites and marvel at the wonders offered up by the region and its beauty. The flowers of the area contain every primary color that magically appears brighter than anywhere else in the world. Guests will also study permaculture and learn how to grow a garden in the hot and high deserts of the region.

The first three days include visits to New Mexico’s most intriguing and picturesque botanical and historical locations including the Rio Grande Botanic Garden featuring over 36 acres of gardens and conservatories that are sure to delight the senses. The newly opened Santa Fe Botanical Garden is also on this day program, which features Orchard Gardens, Naturalistic Gardens, Courtyard Gardens and Arroyo Trails.

Other locations include the archaeological ruins of Puye Cliffs, as well as a visit to El Rancho de Las Golondrinas – New Mexico’s premier living history museum. A stop in the 400 year old capital of Santa Fe takes to old historic gardens as well as private ones, and includes close encounters with the farmers at the local renowned Farmers Market. Other New Mexico visits include wine tasting at a local winery and a Native dinner featuring traditional ingredients and herbs.

Patrizia Antonicelli, owner of Seven Directions Custom Tours explains, “This 10-day journey is truly a unique and unforgettable experience. I wanted to venture beyond the ordinary by partnering with my friends at Linnea Tours who bring over 20 years of experience in botanical tourism. We are ecstatic with the outcome and believe our guests will be too!”

In Arizona the tour begins with a journey through thousand year old petrified forests, once the home of dinosaurs and larger than life reptiles. The fabulous Painted Desert serves as the backdrop on this leg of the journey. An overnight at the historic La Posada in Winslow takes visitors back to the early railroad era and the beautiful architecture by Mary Coulter, creator of the “Tourism Architecture Style.”

Not to be forgotten on the tour are the following iconic parks: Grand Canyon, Wupatki National Monument and the gorgeous red rocks surrounding Sedona. The group will also make a very important architectural visit to Talliesin West to see Frank Lloyd Wright’s desert architectural designs. Then it’s off to see the most famous plants and flowers of the entire Southwest – Saguaro-land!

Other highlights in Arizona include a visit to Tucson where guests are introduced to the flora and fauna of the desert region by way of the Sonora Desert Museum. Also on the agenda is a trip to the Desert Botanical Garden in Phoenix. Along the way there will be other exciting excursions to other prominent museums and art galleries.

This special tour takes place from June 7 to June 17, plus additional travel time from the country or state of origin. Maximum number of people: 15.
