It has previously been estimated that around 40% of women and 60% of men will cheat during marriage, so these figures seem incredibly low!

Britain’s largest survey of sex and marriage has revealed that Devon is the UK’s most unfaithful county, with 44% of spouses currently playing away.
The independent survey, conducted by OnePoll and commissioned by IllicitEncounters.com, the UK’s largest extra-marital dating agency, also revealed that 4% of Devon-based spouses had previously cheated on their current partner. Surrey was found to be the UK’s most saintly county – less than 1% admitted to being currently involved in an extra-marital relationship, and only 2% had cheated on their partner in the past.
OnePoll quizzed over 4,000 married people on their relationship habits. Nationally, 3% of spouses admitted to be currently cheating, and a further 7% disclosed that they had cheated on their current wife or husband previously.
According to the survey, 5% of spouses would cheat “if they thought they could get away with it”.
Below is a table of the Top Ten Cheating Counties. The percentage of respondents from those areas who admitted to cheating on their current spouse is shown in brackets –
1) Devon (47.0%)
2) Avon (19.0%)
3) Lincolnshire (12.5%)
4) Hampshire (10.5%)
5) Derbyshire (10.0%)
6) Cheshire (9.0%)
7) South Yorkshire (9.0%)
8) Kent (7.5%)
9) Essex (7.0%)
10) Hertfordshire (7.0%)
“In our opinion, Devon have just been much more honest in their answers “, says Sara Hartley, site representative. “It has previously been estimated that around 40% of women and 60% of men will cheat during marriage, so these figures seem incredibly low!”
“Traditional values seem to have a strong hold in rural towns and villages, therefore many feel a strong pressure to marry. As a result, we see a lot of members from places like Devon, who married young and now feel trapped in their relationships. The Western Isles, which is widely considered to be one of the most religious places in the UK, has a higher percentage of IllicitEncounters.com members than most other counties”.
The site has just over 5,000 members in Devon, and in excess of 450,000 across the UK. Local case studies and comment are available from the IllicitEncounters.com press department. Please contact Rosie Freeman-Jones for more information. Some unreleased statistics are available under embargo.
