Noted Therapists from the Sexual Recovery Institute to Present at the Society for the Advancement of Sexual Health’s 2014 National Conference

The Sexual Recovery Institute in Los Angeles, founded by international sexual addiction expert Robert Weiss, will be a major presence at the Society for the Advancement of Sexual Health’s 2014 National Conference, to be held Oct. 22 to 26 in Portland, Oregon.

Robert Weiss, LCSW, CSAT-S, an international expert on the treatment of sexual addiction, along with many of his senior staff at the Sexual Recovery Institute in Los Angeles, will speak at the Society for the Advancement of Sexual Health’s 2014 National Conference in Portland, Oregon, from Oct. 22 to 26. The event is expected to draw more than 500 therapists, counselors and medical professionals, and features scores of exhibits, workshops and presentations.

Of special note, Weiss, who founded the Sexual Recovery Institute in 1995, will team with fellow sexual addiction treatment pioneers Patrick Carnes, PhD, and Ralph Earle, PhD, for a panel discussion titled “The Three Amigos on Providing Addiction Treatment in a World of Psychotherapy.”

The Sexual Recovery Institute speakers and their presentations are as follows:

October 24

  •     Marty Simpson, LMFT, CSAT, will present “Assessment and Treatment Planning for Partners of Hypersexual Patients” (3 – 4:15 p.m.)

October 25

  •     Monica Blauner, LCSW, CSAT, will present “Using Mindfulness to Cope with Cravings” (8:45 – 10 a.m.)
  •     Robert Weiss, LCSW, CSAT-S, will present with Patrick Carnes, PhD, and Ralph Earle, PhD, the panel discussion “The Three Amigos on Providing Addiction Treatment in a World of Psychotherapy” (2 – 3:15 p.m.)

October 26

  •     Gregory Pospisil, LMFT, CSAT, and Marty Simpson, LMFT, CSAT, will present “Creative Recovery: The Use of Figurines, Art, Clay, Music, Writing and Other Creative Interventions in the Treatments of Sex Addicts and Their Partners” (1:30 – 2:45 p.m.)
  •     Sharon O’Hara, MA, LMFT, CSAT-S, will present “The Power of the Paradoxical: How to Talk to Your Clients About the 12 Steps” (3:15 – 4:30 p.m.)
  •     Sarah Knowlton, MA, CSAT-3, will present “Using Jungian Archetypes of the Mature Masculine for Sex Addiction Treatment of Men” (3:15 – 4:30 p.m.)

The conference, which offers up to 24 CE hours, will be held at the Hilton Portland and Executive Tower. Highlights include an awards luncheon and an evening equine therapy demonstration with transportation and dinner.
