There's something about the inventive, unique phrases, story set-ups and random fun that keeps you shaking. You just want to see what it will come up with next.

Artgig Studio, a boutique interactive agency in Westchester, NY announces a new sentence-generating mobile app that literally shakes up some language arts fun.

Artgig's Shake-a-Phrase app combines physical device shaking with hilarious randomly generated sentences in a game for kids ages eight and up. But fun is only part of the appeal. The app actively engages kids in reading and building vocabulary during the course of play, while Quiz Me mode strengthens their understanding of parts of speech.

The vocabulary list of more than 1,700 words was compiled by teachers and parents, and includes a broad range of age-appropriate, interesting and entertaining words. Because the definitions were created with children in mind, none of the words are beyond understanding. If any word is unfamiliar, the user can simply tap them to see the definition.

Shake-a-Phrase has three modes: Shake It – a silly sentence generator; Story Starter – an imaginative and wacky way to kick off creative brainstorming; and Quiz Me – an endless, levelled quiz mode that tests the user’s knowledge of nouns, verbs and adjectives.

In addition to the “Starter” content, Shake-a-Phrase offers three distinct content themes to customize learning: Animals, Monster and Fairytale. Other app features include "faving" sentences to a personal library, and emailing sentences. Interface audio effects and catchy music enrich the experience.

"We all have kids here at Artgig, so when we decided to develop our own apps, we instantly gravitated to kids education" says President Matthew Kicinski. He adds, "our core team met many years ago working for an educational software development division of Houghton Mifflin Publishing. Today, we work with a variety of clients and markets but developing a kids game was a natural step for our first self-produced app.”

Lead Programmer, Steven Grosmark comments,“There's something about the inventive, unique phrases, story set-ups and random fun that keeps you shaking. You just want to see what it will come up with next."

Shake-a-Phrase is available as a universal iPhone and iPad app in the Apple iTunes App store:
