123Together.com announced today that new SharePoint users will have the option to use either SharePoint Services v2.0 or v3.0. One reason users would decide to use v2.0 would be to have access to the large number of application templates available in the older version of Windows SharePoint Services compared to the 10 available in version 3.0. Additionally, some of the v3.0 application templates use documents that require Office 2007 products, so companies that have not upgraded can use v2.0.

As many people have yet to make the upgrade to Office 2007, using SharePoint Service v2.0 will not need require an additional software upgrade to use the full SharePoint functionality.
