New versions and translations of the Bible can confuse any Bible study group, but author Sherman W. Pettis has the answer. His new book, “Verily, Verily, I say unto you...: Surely, I come quickly” (published by iUniverse), is a companion book to assist Bible study groups. “We are moving away from the King James Version,” says Pettis. “There are fears of it being pushed aside and ‘newer’ then ‘newer’ printings and ‘translations.’”

The King James Version (KJV), named for King James I of England, was commissioned in 1603 and finished in 1611. It was the third English translation. Pettis wrote his book for the “preservation of the KJV and Christ’s words therein.” Many translations following have changed passages or worded lines differently as new versions have been made available. Pettis says his book is, “The words of Jesus Christ, as translated and recorded in a 1975 Red Letter Edition of our Bible. It boasts of the KJV, the New Testament and its writers.”

Pettis finds great importance in preserving the KJV and feels his book will help others understand various translations better. “Christ’s words are printed, and the location in the Bible given,” says the author. “The book can be used right along with other ‘versions’ to show the intent and decision of the blessed translator’s words spoken by Christ and presented to King James in answer to his request.”
