Credit Crunch Consumers Use Empty Lorries For Courier Deliveries and Save Over £2million

Consumers save millions by utilising empty lorries.

London, UK (PRWEB) July 1, 2009 -- Over the last year, Shiply.com, the UK's online transport marketplace has saved its 25,000+ users more than £2million by matching their consumer delivery requests with haulage firms that are already making similar journeys with capacity to spare. With the recession biting and consumers on the hunt for bargains, it's no wonder Shiply.com is fast becoming an online phenomenon, saving clients up to 75% on transport & courier costs and attracting over 150,000 visitors a month.

Any item can be moved, from a small box of belongings, to car transport, or even an entire household of goods, anywhere across Europe. The service is free and users simply list what they want to move and wait for competitive bids from hauliers looking to utilise their spare capacity. The other benefits of using Shiply.com include, reducing CO² emissions and decreasing congestion on the roads.

Robert Matthams, managing director at Shiply.com, says: "We have seen an influx of users on the site. In the current climate, consumers are increasingly bargain-savvy and willing to shop around to find the best price available. One of the benefits of using Shiply.com is time saved calling numerous firms, to only get full-rate quotes."

Robert adds: "We have over 4,000 haulage companies currently registered who will actively bid for the work, so the consumer is certain to get the lowest price possible. We continually hear feedback from our users that Shiply.com provides the best of both worlds, cheaper haulage costs and the added bonus of cutting carbon emissions in the UK."

Notes to Editors:

eBay Couriers / Delivery

At any one time there are over 930,000 items listed on eBay UK which are 'local collection only'. This can often deter prospective bidders who do not live nearby. The prospect of arranging a courier can be both, time consuming, and costly. Shiply.com, a certified member of the eBay Developers Program, designed tools which allow bidders to import items they have won or are currently bidding on into the Shiply site.

eBay sellers who place Shiply.com's widget on their auction page can attract more bids and a higher winning price, as more consumers are encouraged by the prospect of reduced shipping costs. As a result of the scheme, over 60% of consumer goods listed on Shiply.com are now eBay items.
