Shofner Vision recently participated in supporting The Boys & Girls Clubs of Middle Tennessee’s 2nd Annual Great Futures Gala held on April 25, 2013 at the Lowes Vanderbilt Hotel in Nashville. This successful event featured Emmy award winner, Martin Sheen.

The Boys and Girls Clubs have a proven, demonstrable track record in providing a haven for young people.

Shofner Vision Center supports a multitude of non-for-profits to assist in special interests held close to renowned eye surgeon, Dr. Stewart Shofner’s heart. Most recently Dr. Shofner participated as a live auction donor for the 2nd Annual Great Futures Gala Event benefiting The Boys & Girls Clubs of Middle Tennessee. “The Boys and Girls Clubs have a proven, demonstrable track record in providing a haven for young people and helping turn them into model citizens. We are very pleased to support the great work of this organization," says Dr. Shofner.

The Gala Event
This event is the premier spring fundraiser for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Middle Tennessee and featured Emmy award winner, Martin Sheen who is also a Boys & Girls Clubs alumnus and true believer that the Clubs can change a child’s future. A total of 450 attendees including: corporate executives, philanthropist, community leaders, and 50 children whom were highlighted during the event. Post event, these children were sworn in by Secret Service. “The 2013 Great Futures Gala featuring Martin Sheen raised over $235,000 to support more than 2,000 kids served annually by Boys & Girls Clubs of Middle Tennessee, said John D. Winnett, Chief Development & External Affairs Officer. Winnett also states, “There are currently over 71,000 youth incarcerated in the US at a cost to taxpayers of $87,600 per youth per year. Boys & Girls Clubs of Middle Tennessee is able to serve youth for a cost of around $1,000 a year with programs like SMART Moves (alcohol, drugs and gang prevention), homework help and tutoring and fun activities that help keep these youth out of trouble, out of jail and from becoming an incarcerated juvenile.”
