Supermarket price comparison web site mySupermarket.co.uk has won praise for its new health checking tool by the UK Food Standards Agency.

Our aim is to give shoppers the clearest possible information on the products they buy to help them make quicker, smarter shopping choices. Many shoppers have told us that health is just as important as money when it comes to selecting products at the supermarket

The Food Standards Agency has welcomed the decision by price comparison website mySupermarket.co.uk to use traffic light labelling to enable shoppers to compare the nutritional value of products at four online UK supermarkets.

The online Health Checker uses the Food Standards Agency approved 'traffic light' system to allow mySupermarket shoppers to see at a glance if the food they plan on putting into their trolley is high, medium or low in salt, fat, saturated fats or sugars.

mySupermarket.co.uk director Johnny Stern said, "Our aim is to give shoppers the clearest possible information on the products they buy to help them make quicker, smarter shopping choices. Many shoppers have told us that health is just as important as money when it comes to selecting products at the supermarket".

Head of Nutrition at the Food Standards Agency, Rosemary Hignett, said, "We are delighted that mySupermarket is using traffic light labelling on its site. It helps people who are shopping online to make healthier food choices, at a glance. Most of us lead busy lives and this is a very helpful tool for people who shop from the comfort of their own home.'

mySupermarket is the UK's only independent shopping comparison web site, providing price comparisons for online supermarkets ASDA, Tesco, Sainsbury's and Ocado (Waitrose). No supermarkets or product manufacturers hold stakes in mySupermarket - the site is entirely owned by a group of UK private investors and mySupermarket employees.
