Custom Facebook applications designed using ShortStack can now be viewed via mobile devices. Currently, Facebook mobile does not support page tab applications, so third-party platforms, such as ShortStack, have been left to offer the feature on their own. The social media platform says the addition of mobile capabilities opens the doors for businesses to leverage their custom page tab apps, making them available at their fans fingertips at all times.
“We’re excited to be able to support mobile for our current and potential users,” said Jim Belosic, CEO of ShortStack. “Currently, custom mobile content is not a native feature of Facebook, so we thought that our users and those businesses looking to create custom Facebook apps could really benefit from this, especially with the statistics we’ve been seeing on how many people are using Facebook on their mobile device. We didn’t want custom apps to be left out of that conversation.”
Every custom ShortStack app comes with a "Smart URL" that makes the app viewable on a mobile device. When a visitor clicks on the Smart URL, ShortStack detects whether that visitor is accessing the app via computer or a mobile device, and then ShortStack displays the appropriate content. Businesses can spread that unique URL across the Internet- on Facebook, their website, email newsletters, and any other social web platform they use. And when businesses use Shortstack’s Templates and Themes to style apps, fans using mobile devices see those apps like they were designed specifically for mobile viewing.
ShortStack’s mobile capabilities work for all ShortStack custom apps, including photo and video contests. Although the iPhone OS has file uploading disabled, a fan can still submit a photo to a photo contest from an existing Facebook album using their mobile device and submit and view videos into video contests. Smart URLs work with most smart phones, including the iPhone, Android and phones that have full mobile browsers.
