Shunra, the industry-recognized authority in network virtualization and application performance engineering, is increasing the capabilities of its free NetworkCatcher Express Mobile app. Enhancements to the app include:

  •     Ability to capture downstream bandwidth – Users can now measure the maximum speed data can be received from a particular Internet site, an especially critical metric for determining the deliverability of streaming audio and media.
  •     User interface – In addition to monitoring real-time measurements for latency and packet loss, the new user interface also shows downstream bandwidth conditions.
  •     Improved test results screen – Provides location and connection data, test information, as well as the minimum, average, and maximum details for latency, download, and packet loss. This new capability allows users immediate access to vital test data directly from the app’s result page.

“NetworkCatcher Express Mobile is an invaluable tool for organizations rolling out mobile apps,” said Bill Varga, COO of Shunra. “It allows organizations the ability to immediately and accurately capture network conditions any time or place that mobile performance is of concern. It represents an important step in implementing a proactive application performance engineering strategy.”

NetworkCatcher Express Mobile provides on-demand measurements of the mobile network on which it is used. Users simply download the app and select a test destination – any addressable domain or IP address can be tested. The app will connect via the mobile network to the selected destination and measure downstream bandwidth, packet loss, and network latency. Once it captures these network conditions, NetworkCatcher Express Mobile displays the results graphically and emails a summary of network conditions and specific impairment measurements for analysis.

In addition to a summary email, NetworkCatcher Express Mobile generates a dynamic results file that contains the captured network conditions. This file can be easily imported into Shunra’s core application performance testing solutions: Shunra PerformanceSuite, Shunra for HP, or Shunra vCat in order to reliably recreate real-world mobile network conditions within the application test environment.

The updated app is available immediately through the App Store and coming soon to Google Play.
