Three talented high school students are receiving college scholarships thanks to successful campaigning via social media and support from friends and family. As part of the 3rd Annual “Design-A-Sign” Scholarship Contest from custom signs company Signazon.com, Lyra B. of Yelm, WA, Amanda Y. of Red Wing, MN, and Kaitlin M. of Plant City, FL, will receive a $1,000, $200, and $100 scholarship, respectively.

Signazon.com’s “Design-A-Sign” Scholarship Contest, which ran from Monday, March 25th, 2013 to Friday, May 24th, 2013, invited both high school and college students to design custom graduation banners showcasing their future dreams, goals and aspirations. Now in its 3rd year, the “Design-A-Sign” contest received a record-setting number of 1,546 entrants. Winners were determined via an online voting process that encouraged entrants to gain support for their design from family, friends and other online supporters.

Grand Prize winner Lyra B. earned 5,364 votes for her design, which featured a classic red-and-black design announcing the Class of 2013 as “Bigger and Better.” Lyra promoted her design through her Tumblr photo blog, which has over 40,000 followers. As a reward for her hard work and dedication, she will receive $1,000 to use as she pursues a degree in Graphic Design from Central Washington University. Coincidentally, Lyra needed exactly $1,000 to have her tuition paid in full, having already earned other scholarships and worked two jobs through school to finance her future education.

Runner Up Amanda Y. gathered 4,520 votes primarily by utilizing her popular YouTube channel. Her design incorporates a bright color scheme and a motivational message. With over 13,000 YouTube followers, her vocal covers of hits from music artists such as Bruno Mars and Demi Lovato were the perfect tool to gather enough support to earn a $200 scholarship.

Third Place Winner Kaitlin M. also spread the word about her design through social media, hand-painting the website URLs of her supporters and posting them on her Tumblr as a thank you. Having earned 1,324 votes, she has been awarded a $100 scholarship to assist with her future college expenses.

“On behalf of everyone at Signazon.com, we congratulate these three incredibly hard-working and innovative students,” says Rick D., CEO of Signazon.com, “We wish them success in the future as they pursue their dreams and are proud to be able to support their continued education.”
