Signs Express (Northampton) celebrated its first anniversary under new ownership by sponsoring Northampton Town's Easter Monday clash with Torquay United.
One of franchisee Mark Meadowcroft's first acts when he bought the business in April 2009 was to sign a deal with his local football league club to become official sign partner. Over the last year, the relationship has blossomed. Signs Express (Northampton) has secured new business from a number of fellow commercial partners at the football club, including shirt sponsors Jackson Grundy, and the two organisations have agreed an extension to their agreement. On the field, the team were 20th in League Two on Christmas Day, but have had an excellent run of results in 2010 and by Easter Sunday had risen to sixth in the league.
Meadowcroft chose to invite his team of signmakers to sample the Cobblers' hospitality. He said: "It's been an interesting year. We have been profitable, but we've had to earn every penny in a very difficult economy. However, we believe that business confidence in Northamptonshire is improving and we are cautiously optimistic that next year will be better. It's important to say thank you to my team, they've worked hard and they and their partners deserve their day out."
The match itself was watched by Northampton Town's biggest crowd of the season, but the spectacle was spoiled by a strong wind that blew diagonally across the pitch and ended in nil-nil draw. But the club's play-off hopes are still firmly alive and Signs Express (Northampton) is still dreaming of a trip to Wembley next month.
