UK's Daresbury Science & Innovation Campus crosses the pond to be a part of the Plug and Play Acceleration and Collaboration Track

Key personnel from UK's Daresbury Science & Innovation Campus (SIC) recently traveled to Silicon Valley to meet with Plug and Play Technical Center. The meeting, which follows Plug and Play's visit to Daresbury in January, builds upon the U.S.-UK high-tech business relationship and paves the way for future collaborations and the promise of industry innovations.

Also during the visit, Daresbury SIC and one of its companies, YR Free Labs, attended the international Plug and Play Acceleration and Collaboration Track (PACT) event. The event provided an opportunity for U.S. businesses and investors to learn more about YR Free Labs, a company in the northwestern region of the UK that has developed technology to capture, manage, secure and provide content of streamed mobile video. The goal is to strengthen these relationships in order to foster international expansion of companies in both locations.

Several of Silicon Valley's major players, including Intel, Cisco, Hewlett Packard and Facebook, also met with Daresbury SIC and YR Free Labs to discuss strategic relationships. The comprehensive visits were arranged by the North of England Inward Investment Agency. The North of England Inward Investment Agency is a UK government agency funded by the Northwest Regional Development Agency and One North East to support strategic relationships and to help U.S. companies looking to expand into the North of England and tap into the European market.

John Leake, General Manager of Daresbury SIC said, "We hope that the United States as a whole and Silicon Valley specifically, benefit from the exciting opportunities emerging from Daresbury Science & Innovation Campus. The Campus model for open innovation enables U.S. partners to develop strategic relationships with our community of small high-tech firms and key blue chip companies. Our blossoming relationship with Plug and Play enables U.S. companies to develop key strategic footings in the UK and Europe."

Kate Lowes CTO, of YR Free Technologies added, "We met Plug and Play early in 2009 and were impressed by their business model for new start-ups and have started to build a strong relationship with them. We are excited, along with our U.S. counterparts, about the possibility of developing successful collaborative partnerships thanks to the intelligent matching carried out by Plug and Play."

Gareth Lewis of the North of England Inward Investment Agency said, "In today's turbulent market, finding innovative and high growth companies requires Bay Area Venture Capitalists to look beyond the Valley and tap into the entrepreneurial

innovations coming from the likes of Daresbury Science & Innovation Campus and the universities in The North of England. The Northern UK market is also a successful landing spot for Bay Area companies looking to expand into Europe's strongest market."
