Silver Compass, a tailor-made travel agency, pride themselves in being experts in romantic city breaks, and have put together a list of featured hotels in some of the most beautiful European capitals to inspire a romantic Valentine’s trip.
When thinking of the most romantic European cities, some will always come close to the top of the list, and for good reason. A trip to Paris for Valentine ’s Day is a perfect way to enjoy some time with a loved one, and there are some wonderful hotels in which to base the perfect Valentine’s break. For a destination offering a slightly cheaper, but by no means less luxurious romantic city break, then Budapest, Prague and Barcelona have some of the best romantic hotels in Europe.
The design hotel Secret de Paris, situated in the heart of the city, is a luxury boutique hotel with real character. The hotel has 29 rooms, all designed in one of six themes of landmarks of traditional Paris. The ‘atmospherist’ Sandrine Alouf, who lent her hand to each of these styles, has used intricate detail to provide a truly unique environment in which to stay.
The rest of the hotel has also been designed to reflect the wider city, with opportunities to relax and unwind in the beautiful themed garden areas, or alternatively in the sauna. This boutique hotel truly is a wonderful place to experience the most romantic of trips in the most romantic of cities.
For somewhere a little further afield, the city of Budapest provides a captivating backdrop to a perfect break, and nowhere better to enjoy this than at the Intercontinental Hotel, on the banks of the river Danube. From here breathtaking views of some of Budapest’s most famous landmarks can be seen, such as the Chain Bridge, the former Royal Palace and the river itself. It is also a perfect place from which to enjoy everything that the city has to offer, both on the flatter and more modern Pest side of the river and the hills and castle of Buda. The hotel also has a state of the art SPA, with treatment rooms, a swimming pool and sauna amongst other things and therefore offers a wide variety of ways to enjoy Valentine’s Day in Budapest.
Staying with Intercontinental hotels, their hotel in Prague is one of the best in the city. Right in the heart of the famous shopping boulevard, Parizka, it shares many of the same characteristics as their sister hotel in Budapest, with fantastic views of the river, luxurious rooms and a perfect location from which to explore everything that the city has to offer. The Intercontinental in Prague also has a top of the range spa to relax at the end of the day.
And finally, Barcelona has all the charm of these other cities and even more diversity. The boutique Hotel Duquesa de Cardona is situated in a very central position, overlooking the port and just minutes from Las Ramblas and the Gothic Quarter. Built in the 16th century and restored in 1850, this hotel shows off some of the true charm of the Catalonian city. And if the comfort of one of the 40 avant-garde decorated rooms aren’t enough, then the open-air roof terrace, where some of the best food and drink that the city has to offer can be enjoyed, should be enough to put the icing on the cake.
