SkySaver's Mordecai Dzikansky says their product would help avoid tragedy, such as in the recent death of a woman who fell four stories to avoid a fire.
As reported in the Jerusalem Post, on Saturday night September 15, 2012 a woman died after suffering severe internal injuries from jumping four floors to escape a fire in her residential building in Ramleh, Israel. The cause of the fire was not sensational, the building was typical and rescue services responded saving as many trapped residents as they could. The woman who was not rescued by firefighters jumped having decided that was her only option. Det. Dzikansky is highly certain that the woman could have been saved if only she had used a SkySaver* rescue device!
Based on Det. Dzikansky's vast experience as a first responder, there are times that first responders' capabilities are limited. According to Dzikansky, "There are situations where one does not have the luxury of waiting for professional help to arrive and a "last resort" safety measure is the only choice for survival. Being prepared and stepping up to take responsibility for one's personal safety is an essential lesson to us all."
On 9/11/2001, NYC learned this difficult lesson of not depending upon others in order to protect its citizens. In response, the City adopted a more proactive approach and changed the face of its policing strategies making terror prevention and recovery an utmost priority.
As both a first responder to the nightmarish scenes of 9/11 and then as the NYPD's global terror expert posted in Israel (having attended over 20 global suicide bombing and disaster scenes), Det. Dzikansky witnessed best practice security and safety measures as well as the costly impact that not being properly prepared has on saving lives.
While it is the job of government, law enforcement and fire agencies to keep its citizens safe, citizens must also be proactive in this endeavor. Don't solely rely on being rescued; be prepared!
