Experienced Executives and Managers are Opening Small Businesses

Investing Retirement Funds in Businesses a Growing Trend

Bellevue, WA (PRWEB) November 10, 2009 -- More than 83 percent of small business clients surveyed by Guidant Financial Group last quarter come from management or executive positions. Moreover, almost 60 percent of those surveyed spent at least 21 years at their previous employer before making the switch to a personal business.

"The results indicate that both experienced managers and high-level executives want to use their knowledge and talents to bolster their investment in a small business," explains David Nilssen, co-founder of Guidant Financial Group, which helps individuals who choose to use their retirement funds to invest in a small business or franchise.

"They've spent years climbing the corporate ladder," explains Nilssen, "only to make great returns for others. Now they have the opportunity to benefit from their hard work, and many are capturing at least a portion of that benefit as a retirement plan investment."

According to the same survey, nearly half of all new business owners said they wanted to open a business so they could be in control of their own destinies. This statistic suggests that personal freedom and opportunity for growth are drawing some people away from the corporate world and also providing sufficient incentive to justify an investment of some retirement funds into their new small business.

"While the ability to invest retirement funds into a small business is not a widely understood option," says Nilssen, "it continues to be a growing investment trend. Very experienced and educated people are excited to learn that they can invest in their own small business, and almost 70 percent of these new business owners have graduated from a four-year college or have earned an advanced or professional degree."
