Qualified commercial spaces in Rockland County--which include offices, schools, garages, restaurants, warehouses, car dealerships and light industrial spaces--will benefit from new lighting systems, while O&R will pay the majority of the cost.

SmartWatt Energy, Inc. (“SmartWatt”), based in Ballston Lake, NY, announced today that it has been awarded an implementation contract by Willdan Energy Solutions (Willdan or WES) for delivery of energy-efficiency services in Rockland County, NY, under Orange & Rockland Utilities, Inc.’s (O&R), Small Business Program (the Program).

SmartWatt and Willdan estimate that as many as 350 small businesses in Rockland County will benefit from this Program. Business customers with an average peak demand of 100 kilowatts or less per month will qualify for the Program, in which O&R provides rebates of 70% of the cost of the installation of energy-efficient measures. Qualified commercial spaces in Rockland County--which include offices, schools, garages, restaurants, warehouses, car dealerships and light industrial spaces--will benefit from new energy-efficient lighting systems, while O&R will pay the majority of the cost.

As an implementation contractor for Willdan in the O&R Program, SmartWatt will provide free energy audits and reports of recommended energy-efficiency improvements, and will manage the installation of the energy-efficient measures. Since 2010, SmartWatt has helped customers in the Central and Northern NY, regions conserve energy under a similar small business program through National Grid.

As the program administrator, Willdan’s responsibilities in overall program management include marketing, community outreach, program budget administration and technical oversight. Most of the O&R contract work is scheduled for completion by the end of 2011.
