SmallHD has opened pre-orders for its latest generation of on-camera monitor—the DP7-PRO. This top-tier product introduces radical innovation tempered by feedback from 847 video professionals through extensive surveys conducted by SmallHD. The result is an impressive list of groundbreaking features such as the industry’s only true high definition OLED and Daylight-Viewable displays, advanced signal conversion, software FX output to secondary monitors, HD recording to SD card, Rec 709 Lookup Tables (LUTs), “X-PORT” 80-pin accessory dock for expandable I/O, and proximity-sensing “Smart Key” technology. Pre-orders for the DP7-PRO OLED and DP7-PRO HB are expected to ship this Fall and will receive a free accessory kit worth over $300. “SmallHD is breaking new ground again,” says Dale Backus, SmallHD’s CTO. “This time, not only with our leading HD display technology, but also with a host of additional software and hardware innovations that have never been seen before in one product. The DP7-PRO will replace a huge number of devices normally found on a high-end camera rig, so its value is tremendous.”
“These two monitors look absolutely amazing—especially the OLED version,” Says Weston Phillips, CEO. “Combining HD resolution with the picture quality of OLED technology like this is brings field-monitoring so much closer to the color-grading suite.”
Equipped with industry first 7-inch displays, the DP7 will be available in two varieties: the color-rich 720p "OLED" and the daylight-viewable 720p "High-Bright". The OLED technology found in the DP7 enables high contrast, deep black levels and 100% reproduction of the NTSC color gamut—a feature found only on full fledged color grading monitors. The high-bright version emits over 1000 nits, making it the only daylight-viewable HD on-camera display.
Signal conversion has been taken to the next level on the DP7-PRO—every input signal can be converted and sent out both HDMI and SDI simultaneously to devices downstream. Pick from SDI, HDMI, Component or Composite inputs.
Software FX Output:
With a full arsenal of pro software filters like Waveform, Vectorscope, Zebras, Focus Assist, Guides, Anamorphic Scaling and Lookup Tables (LUTs), the DP7-PRO is not only capable of providing vital image information to the operator, but will also embed these filters into the digital outputs (HDMI & SDI) for downstream viewing—meaning a secondary director/client monitor can display the exact same image that’s showing on the DP7-PRO.
Onboard 720p H.264 proxy recording to an SD card will simplify a complicated workflow on set by providing a complete dailies reel automatically. Easy playback is achieved through the DP7-PRO’s user interface or any Mac/PC featuring an SD card slot.
With the addition of several predefined lookup tables (LUTs), the DP7-PRO will be able to convert a low contrast “Log” image—S-Log, C-Log, Log C and even Canon DSLR “Cinestyle”—to the HDTV “Rec 709” standard or the digital cinema projector “DCI P3” standard. This capability provides the best of both worlds: recording of Log video files color grading purposes while viewing a more “finished” looking image on set for easier focus pulling and image evaluation.
The “X-PORT” is a new style of expansion port found on the rear of the DP7-PRO. Mirroring all the I/O on the exterior of the monitor plus some control lines, the potential for seamless accessory integration is nearly infinite, beginning with a special dock for the Paralinx Arrow Wireless HD Transmitter.
New “Smart Key” technology found on the DP7-PRO integrates 8 one-press function buttons, on-screen labels and proximity sensors for an incredibly efficient user experience. The user will never have to memorize which functions are assigned to the 8 different buttons—as the user moves his hand toward any button, one of the 4 built-in proximity sensors will trigger the buttons’ labels to appear on the DP7-PRO’s display before the hand ever touches the monitor. These 8 function buttons are easily reprogrammed using the press-and-hold method.
In addition, the DP7-PRO offers many of the familiar features SmallHD users are now accustomed to, including USB software upgradeability, a milled aluminum housing, a lightweight design, low power consumption and incredibly high overall value.
The DP7-PRO is made in the USA. Discover more at http://www.smallhd.com/DP7-PRO.
