Surface Mount Technology is the leading method for building electronic equipment using components that are mounted directly onto the Printed Circuit Board (PCB) as opposed to the previous method where wire leads were threaded through holes on the PCB. The small components used are called Surface Mount Devices or SMDs and are generally very small with no markings or distinguishing characteristics, making them easy to lose track of the component itself or the value.
Smart Tweezers are a unique alternative to testing these components, either loose or mounted. Without needing to use long wire leads or stopping to set up between measurements, like conventional bench-type testers would make one do, Smart Tweezers only relies on just a touch.
The combination of a set of tweezers with a powerful LCR-meter allows Smart Tweezers to easily grasp any component, no matter the size or if it’s mounted or loose. When the tweezers grasp a component, Smart Tweezers and LCR-Reader will automatically determine the type of component and the best measurement range for that component before measuring for Inductance, Resistance, Capacitance or Equivalent Series Resistance (ESR) values.
