SmartDebit responds to Council saving £11,000 with Direct Debit

According to the Clacton Gazette, Tendering Council wrote to 23,000 residents encouraging them to pay their bills using the Direct Debit method. Following this correspondence, an extra 2,263 payer opted to pay by Direct Debit, resulting in savings of £11,000 a year for the Council.

Cabinet member for benefits and revenues reported that 38,906 people now pay their bills this way. “The overall figure has risen from 54 per cent to 57 per cent and this is the highest we have ever achieved,” he said. “When you consider that ten per cent of all accounts had nothing to pay at annual billing this year because they are receiving full benefit or an existing exemption, it meant that 63 per cent of those who had a bill to pay did so by Direct Debit.”
