Smart Design, a global design consultancy, is pleased to announce that Matt Barthelemy has joined the firm as Vice President of Interaction Design and is responsible for leading the company-wide interaction design group through an exciting period of growth and evolution.

With over 20 years of design consulting experience, Barthelemy comes to Smart having developed scores of new products, services, and companies in a wide range of industry segments. He applies strategic thinking, creative problem solving, and real-world business acumen to his engagements, and has a deep background in brand expression, product, and interface design. As part of Smart's leadership team, he shares responsibility for mentorship, business strategy, business development, and client account management.

Matt Barthelemy has led business, product, and marketing strategies for start-ups and Global 2000 firms alike, with clients ranging from Sony, TiVo, Hitachi, Time Warner Cable, Plantronics, Nokia, Motorola, Fujitsu, Xerox PARC, Honda, Lufthansa, and the design of Apple's groundbreaking original PowerBooks, the 100 and 140/170.
Prior to joining Smart Design, Barthelemy was Vice President, Strategy at Method where he successfully built their business and reputation in device and software design. Previous to Method, Barthelemy was a Vice President at MetaDesign, a Vice President at Sapient Corporation, and a Design Manager at frog design; he began his career working with Xerox PARC.
Barthelemy holds a BS in industrial design from CSU Long Beach. He holds several international and U.S. patents and has won numerous national and international design awards. He is regularly invited to speak at international and regional conferences, has published articles and has been interviewed and quoted by a range of global and national publications.
