Smartenit® and Blue Line Innovations announce immediate availability of a missing piece of the energy management puzzle, the means of getting real time energy information from any electric meter into a home controls network. Smartenit’s ZBPCM provides the bridge between the Blue Line Innovations PowerCost Monitor™ electric meter sensor, and wireless HA/SE ZigBee and INSTEON home area networks. This unique combination allows true energy management by providing not only energy monitoring, but control of devices based on energy information.

The Blue Line Innovations PowerCost Monitor™ puts the power to save electricity into the consumer’s hands by turning almost any electric meter, old or new, into a broadcasting Smart Meter offering whole house energy information. The Smartenit ZBPCM device allows this whole house energy information to become part of a home controls network using the proven ZigBee and INSTEON wireless protocols for maximum flexibility.

“It has always been our conviction that having energy consumption information available is only the first part of the equation. A more important aspect is to have that information automatically generate actions for more impact to consumers, their bottom line and the environment. Automating home and building actions based on sensors is what we do. We take a given situation and “Smarten it” with a solutions approach, says Al Choperena, president of Smartenit, Inc.”

“This solution is a huge enabler for utilities, service providers and homeowners. While smart meters are being deployed they aren’t openly broadcasting data. The Blue Line optical sensor can get real time data from almost any meter into the home and now in conjunction with Smartenit populate that data into a ZigBee or INSTEON home area network. This really puts the data to work and drives comfort and savings for the homeowner”, says Peter Porteous, CEO of Blue Line Innovations Inc.

This solution feeds instantaneous demand (Kw) and consumption (Kw hrs) for the whole house to several available and upcoming energy management and home control applications. Based on this information the consumer can customize parameters to allow for automated energy-saving responses. Smartenit also manufactures metering ZigBee plugs and load controllers that give the consumer an even deeper layer of energy management capability.

Data from the electric meter or any appliance connected to smart plugs or load controllers is displayed over dashboards on smartphones, tablets or PCs. Armed with all this powerful information, consumers can set very specific parameters as to when energy adjustments are to be automatically executed, truly smartening their environment. Automating all aspects of daily living is here to stay for an even bigger reason than convenience. Energy awareness and management has become very important at the consumer level.
