There is still no cure for asthma. The most we can hope for now is to make it easier for people with asthma and related allergies to buy products that can help them achieve allergen reduction in the home. This is what asthma friendly® is helping to accomplish

SmartSilk™, a Montreal-based duvet and bedding manufacturer, announced that it has received the acclaimed asthma friendly® Certification Mark. This mark lets asthma and allergy sufferers know that the product they are buying has been scientifically tested and proven to be more suitable for people with asthma and related allergic sensitivities. The asthma friendly® Certification Program was developed and launched in Canada by Allergy Standards Limited (ASL) in partnership with the Asthma Society of Canada (ASC).SmartSilk™ is the first silk fill bedding to receive the asthma friendly® Certification Mark.

"There is still no cure for asthma. The most we can hope for now is to make it easier for people with asthma and related allergies to buy products that can help them achieve allergen reduction in the home. This is what asthma friendly® is helping to accomplish," says Dr. John O'Mahony, President of Allergy Standards Limited.

According to the World Health Organization estimates, over 300 million people worldwide suffer from asthma. They list exposure to indoor allergens, such as house dust mites in bedding, as one of the strongest risk factors for developing asthma. SmartSilk™ silk fill bedding, which includes duvets, mattress protectors and pillow protectors, is ideal for people suffering from allergies or asthma as it acts as a barrier to protect them from these dust mites, clinically known as acarids.

In order to receive the asthma friendly® certification, SmartSilk™ duvets and pillow protectors had to go through rigorous scientific testing performed at state of the art, accredited laboratory facilities. The duvets and pillow protectors will carry labels explaining why they achieved asthma friendly® certification.

SmartSilk™ silk fill duvets come in five sizes, from Crib to King. They are machine washable and dryable for easy care. The full line of SmartSilk™ products is available online at http://www.smartsilk.com and at fine stores in Canada including the Linen Chest stores across Quebec and parts of Ontario and Nestings in Toronto. They are also the bedding of choice of the Hotel Crystal de la Montagne, a full-service, luxury boutique hotel which will be opening soon in downtown Montreal, Quebec.
