Smiffy’s Launch Incentive to Fight Copyright Infringement

Share Article

Smiffy’s are joining forces with their stockists to help crack down on Copyright infringement. Copyright infringement is rife in this industry, especially on sites such as eBay and Amazon, where sellers import inferior product, but use prestigious company images and designs.

Smiffy’s dedicated in-house team are working closely with e-Bay and Amazon to fight this crime and to-date have removed thousands of infringing listings, totalling over £100,000 of sales by online offenders since the beginning of the year. With the help of solicitors, Smiffy’s have received back over £30,000 in costs and damages from sellers who have infringed their image and design rights, all of which is being invested back into the project.

It’s not just Smiffy’s that is losing out here. Their valued customers are too, because they are being hoodwinked into buying inferior, copyright-infringing products instead of genuine Smiffy’s products! As a reward, Smiffy’s are paying £100 (ex VAT) to customers who report what proves to be a new instance of licence, image or design infringement.

This is a rewarding and valuable scheme and by teaming up with their customers, Smiffy’s are once again showing commitment to leading the fancy dress industry.

Smiffy’s invite all of their customers to join in the fight against infringement crime. If you have spotted any instance of copyright infringement then call Smiffy’s sales team on 0800 590 599.
