Now more than ever it is time for Angelenos to realize the importance of spay and neuter. I am grateful to SNP LA for providing affordable services that are essential for the health and safety of our pets and our community alike.

The Spay Neuter Project of Los Angeles (SNP LA) has rung in Spay Neuter Month 2012 with a bang by performing its 50,000th surgery since launching in 2007. In celebration of this important milestone, and to raise awareness of its low cost and free services, SNP LA will open its doors to community members for a series of open houses throughout the month of February.

The open houses, hosted at SNP LA’s three clinics strategically located throughout the Los Angeles metro area, will offer an opportunity to meet the expert medical staff and tour the state-of-the-art clinics, as well as feature door prizes including free spay and neuter surgeries. The open houses will be held throughout the month of February and are open to the public:

  •     Pico Rivera: February 1, 2012 from 4pm-7pm; 9325 Slauson Ave, Pico Rivera, CA 90660
  •     San Pedro: February 8, 2012 from 4pm-7pm; 957 N. Gaffey St. San Pedro, CA 90731
  •     Van Nuys: February 29, 2012 from 4pm-7pm; 14409 Vanowen St., Van Nuys, CA 91405

The Spay Neuter Project of Los Angeles relies upon the support of donors to offer subsidized low cost and free services to low income pet owners. The 50,000 surgeries performed by SNP LA over the past five years have avoided the birth of hundreds of thousands of unwanted dogs and cats that would otherwise crowd an already overwhelmed shelter system that euthanizes over 100,000 pets countywide each year.

“When three out of every four cats (75%) and one out of every three dogs (33%) are entering shelters only to be euthanized, we must face the fact there is a huge problem here,” said Noel Jackson, Director of Operations for SNP LA. “SNP LA is doing its part to end this tragic cycle, and the 50,000th surgery shows we’re well on our way.”

With three full time clinics now reaching full capacity, SNP LA expects to sterilize nearly 30,000 pets in 2012 alone. Based on spay neuter programs in other communities, sustaining this level of subsidized low cost spay neuter services for the next five years should reduce shelter intake by 20% and euthanasia by even more.

“I’m glad I got to be a part of the effort to help reduce euthanasia by neutering my cat,” said Dro Arzooian, the Glendale resident whose cat was the recipient of the 50,000th surgery. “I knew I wanted to keep my cat safe and healthy, as well as prevent any unwanted strays, so SNP LA’s low price and great service made them the obvious choice.”

“Now more than ever it is time for Angelenos to realize the importance of spay and neuter,” Dro Arzooian said. “I am grateful to SNP LA for providing affordable services that are essential for the health and safety of our pets and our community alike.”
