Numero Uno Web Solutions (NumeroUnoWeb.com), a fast-growing global Internet marketing firm that caters to small- and mid-sized business-to-consumer companies, is releasing its expert opinion on a recent social business and the growing impact social business has on smaller businesses.
A recent study from MIT Sloan Management Review and Deloitte shows that 70% of respondents believe that social business will fundamentally change the way their companies operate. On top of that, more than three-quarters (79%) say social business is important or somewhat important in managing their brand and reputation. "The term ‘social business’ can be wide-reaching, encompassing everything from internally developed social networks and social software to marketing intelligence," says Marco Reuter, business development manager at Numero Uno Web Solutions. "But for most smaller businesses, because of their limited resources, social business is mainly concerned with consumer-based social media and networks, including Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Pinterest, Google+, and blogs."
A key finding in the report, says Reuter, is the growing importance social business has to companies. In 2011, 18% said it was important; in 2012, that number doubled to 36%; and over the next three years, that percentage is expected to explode to almost 70%. Nevertheless, many companies are facing common barriers of progress, including lack of an overall strategy (28%) and competing priorities (26%).
"Despite certain barriers, all respondents, across 25 industries and 99 countries, increased the value they place on social business. Social business is here to stay," Reuter adds. "When it comes to helping brands get discovered, increasing sales, brand affinity, data mining, and connecting with consumers, social business is only going to continue to increase in importance and relevance."
"Social business channels are evolving, and the way businesses work is evolving along with them," Reuter concludes. "To compete and make their web sites more discoverable to online users, small- and medium-sized businesses need to embrace the unstoppable emergence of social business. For some brands, that could mean reevaluating and adjusting their current social business objectives. For others, it could mean developing and implementing a social business strategy."
